Diagnosing Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's disease is progressive disorder of brain. By diagnosing we can say about 90% that some one had Alzheimer's. Diagnosing involves physical exam, lab tests, taking thorough history, and noticing various mental status examinations. There are many guidelines to be followed while diagnosing Alzheimer's disease. We can that someone has Alzheimer's if they have dementia with progressive problems in memory. Some guide lines say that if we someone we can say that someone has Alzheimer's disease if they have problem in thinking, language, understanding and moving. There are many tests involved in diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. They are blood tests, brain imaging, mental status, etc.

Blood tests: Blood tests will be taken for the patients who are suffering from this Alzheimer's disease. It will help in knowing whether the patient is having deficiency in vitamins, medications, medication levels, and other factors that can cause memory loss.

Mental status: to know which memory functions have been effected and up to which level some questions will be asked to know their attention, language, mental and speaking ability. They will compare the test results with normal persons results.

Brain imaging: internal images of brain are checked to know whether there are any tumors and other conditions that may have affected the brain. There are many techniques available to diagnose the brain such as CT scan, MRI, PET or SPECT, etc. SPECT and PET are done as soon as person begins to have memory problems.

It is better to take a suggestion of doctor to know which test is better for the diagnosis of the brain. By diagnosing we can know up to 90% that some on is having Alzheimer's probably. All these tests are taken to know whether he is affected by Alzheimer's or not. But there is no cure for this Alzheimer's disease, which is in millions of people through out the world. German scientist Dr. Alois Alzheimer first found this disease. He found it in a woman who dies because of sudden illness of brain. He found some tangles and lumps formed in her brain. There are many symptoms for this Alzheimer's disease. They are problem in thinking, problem in language, problem in speaking, problem in sleeping, forgetting names of friends and family members, forgetting things, which happened just now, loss of initiative, etc. Alzheimer's is a form of dementia. There are three stages. They are mild stage, medium stage and severe stage. Thus we can diagnose to know about the Alzheimer's disease.
