Drug Treatment For Alzheimer'sAlzheimer's disease is a common and devastating condition and the launch of a specific treatment naturally attracted intense interest. Although the current drug treatment for this disease is not all together very effective scientists continue to research new and more advanced treatments to help alleviate the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease and to help to prevent the onset of the disease. These include drugs that help or reverse the process of Alzheimer's disease. None of the current drugs are able to do this and also the current drugs have a sedating effect in which scientists are trying to eliminate with the anti agitation drugs. There are some new drugs for this Alzheimer’s disease. They are estrogen, memantine, aricept, etc. Recently available drugs called cholinesterase inhibitors are the first effective drug treatment for Alzheimer's disease if some person who is suffering from this disease cholinesterase breaks down and destroys acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter chemical. This cholinesterase inhibitors help to prevent this breakdown and so promote a more plentiful supply of acetylcholine. A new treatment called memantine has recently been launched for people in the middle to late stage of Alzheimer's disease. It is not fully understood how well this drug works in practice and it may not work for everyone. Sometimes anti-depressants are prescribed to help treat the depression that can be associated with Alzheimer's disease. Effects of these drugs: These drugs will improve memory; they will also have benefits like improving alertness and motivation. It takes months to notice the improvements and some people will have improvement in mood and slow in memory loss. Alzheimer’s will be able to perform the works, which they have forgotten. Side effects of these drugs: There will be side effects by usage of these drugs such as loss of appetite, poor in sleep sometimes, tiredness, cramps in muscles, etc. Side effects will be there for some days and will go after the medicine power goes from the body. So its better to take a suggestion of doctor before we use drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. We should take these drugs daily. These drugs should be taken from low dose. If we get any side effects also we should not stop taking them as they will be some days and will go after the power of medicines go from the body. There are psychological techniques for helping to cope with Alzheimer's disease. These include techniques known as reality orientation, reminiscence therapy and validation therapy, art and music therapy are also used but their effectiveness is not proven. Others drugs used in the treatment of this disease are to treat any co-existing medical conditions that may affect the overall health of the Alzheimer's patient. These can include drugs to treat depression, urinary infection and other physical problems. These drugs could be anti-depressants to treat the underlying health problem. Some researchers have suggested that people who exercise their brains are less likely to develop the disease and omega three fatty acids contain in oily fish such as mackerel and salmon may also help to prevent dementia but there is no completely solid evidence to show how environmental factors influence like the chances of getting Alzheimer's disease. Be sure to carefully watch your loved one as there are other health problems that can increase the symptoms of this disease so it is important to consult a physician and always remember that the Alzheimer's patient may not be able to effectively communicate their health problems to others. |
